Someone Else’s Game

I guess it’s been coming
The time is here
The advent of bombing
The climate of fear
We hoped for a stay
Of execution
Each night we’d pray
For resolution

It’s like sitting in a playground
Watching others get hurt
Chasing each other around:
A lesson never learned -
Now people will have died
In someone else’s game
Where do we go to hide
If we don’t want to play?

Wake up each morning
Watch the breakfast news
Prepare for a warning
As you tie your shoes
On the other side
Of a small small world
A few men decide
The fate of the Earth

Neighbours across a fence
Spoiling for a fight
Each claim self-defence
All over some tree’s height
Now people will have died
In someone else’s game
Where do we go to hide
If we don’t want to play?

What hope have we?
Every time we disagree
We come closer to World War Three -
It just needn’t be.
